Put your best foot forward and take a walk from cellar to cellar on an Arblaster & Clarke Vineyard Walk

July A&C Holiday

Strolling off the beaten track for five to ten miles each day, a vineyard walking experience captures the essence of a region, with picnic lunches, exclusive visits, picturesque villages and the reward of a varied selection of high quality wines. Each walk bears a rating according to the degree of difficulty and luggage is transported independently so hands are free to raise those glasses!

The Southern Burgundy Vineyard Walk, 4 – 10 September 2010, the most relaxing and perhaps most focused of the walks, wandering through the appellations discovering what makes great Burgundy – the journey itself reads like a magnificent wine list!

The Douro Harvest Walk, 5 –11 September 2010 is probably the most spectacular of all the Arblaster & Clarke vineyard walks, walking off the beaten track, experiencing rural Portugal’s breathtaking unspoilt countryside. Based in the remotely located quality Port Estate of Quinta do Passadouro, visiting famous estates such as Noval, Warre’s Cavadinha, Niepoort and Quinta do Vale D. Maria, September will be a fascinating time to be wandering through the Douro Valley as the vineyards will be a hive of activity as the harvest gets underway. The tastings are as much (if not more even) about the new wave of table wines as about Port and its traditions.

The Piemonte Vineyard Walk 13 – 19 September 2010  is new to A&C’s vineyard walks programme this year. Early autumn is the ideal time of year to walk in Piemonte as the weather is perfect for experiencing the regions stunning countryside of Italy’s premium wine region and the harvest might be in full swing. The tour takes in some of the best vineyards found in the North; combined with Piemonte’s gastronomic reputation, this walking expedition justifies the many superb ‘long’ lunches and dinners! With your A&C Walk Guide you’ll visit many of the top wine producers and enjoy the full spectrum of Piemontese wines ranging from the frothy but appealing Moscato d’Asti, to the serious wines from the Nebbiolo grape; the powerful tannic Barolo, and the elegant Barbaresco.

The Alsace Vineyard Walk, 3 – 9 October 2010, ranks as one of the most beautiful and charming of all fine wine regions, this particular walk covers the classic vineyards of the beautiful Haut-Rhin, dotted with small, delightful half-timber villages and boasts some of the most hospitable and distinguished wine producers in all France. We also spend a day over the border in Germany in the Ihringen region as a fascinating opportunity to compare and contrast.

A ‘walking and wine tasting’ combination is the ideal way to stretch those legs, marvel at the scenery and discover how local gastronomy compliments such exceptional wines before leisurely heading onto the next cellar!

Arblaster & Clarke Vineyard Walks include character accommodation often on wine estates or owned by wineries, breakfasts, a specified number of meals with wines (a range of picnic lunches & evening meals), visits and tastings, a walk guide, minibus support for the itinerary and transfers from specified points at the start and end of each tour. Prices start from £1499 per person.
