Spitting Spider Shiraz 2008, Dowie Doole, South Australia - £83.88 per 12 bottles
The Dowie Doole wines are characterized by bundles of fruit, and a drinkability which makes them instant crowd pleasers. Co-owned by Norm Doole, Drew Dowie, and Leigh Gilligan, the wines are made at the modern “Boar’s Rock” winery.  The Spitting Spider Shiraz is from fruit sourced from a variety of different  vineyard sites in South Australia, crushed and fermented with the sole aim of creating a bright, juicy, flavoursome red with soft tannins for earlier drinking. A vivacious blend of Shiraz, with a sprinkling of Grenache, Petit Verdot and Merlot, this wine is enjoyable immediately, with the potential to keep for another 2-3 years

Shiraz 2008, Dowie Doole - £191.88 per 12 bottles
At Dowie Doole quality drives everything in the vineyard, with a focus on bio-diversity, reducing chemical sprays, and using natural composts. This is a full throttle Shiraz, the fruit sourced 100% from McLaren Vale. Vintage 2008 began very early for the winemaking team, with a heatwave in March 2008.  Fortunately the Dowie Doole picked all of their McLaren Vale fruit before the heatwave, and and the reds have excellent balance with ripe tannins.  A mixture of 1-4 years French and American oak, the wine was racked and topped every three months, and remained in barrel for sixteen months. A nose of spice box, smoky oak, cloves and dark cherries , leads on to deep plum flavours, a rich and broad palate that contains spice box, smoky oak, cloves and dark cherries. Silky ripe tannins and a bright finish makes this a high impact wine. Herb roasted rack of lamb would partner this wine beautifully, and it has the potential to cellar for 6-8 years comfortably.
