Rocca Alata Amarone Della Valpolicalla 2007
Veneto, Italy
Dry Red (Cork), 14.5% abv
This is a big wine. Cherry and coffee notes on the nose, the palate is bold with generous fruit (think strawberries and blackberries squishy and ripe). There's a peppery touch and this will match up well with hearty rich game today or you could age it for a further two years to soften up. Find on wine-searcher.com

Château Langoa-Barton 2000
Saint-Julien (Bordeaux), France
Dry Red (Cork), 12.5% abv
Youthful, deep colour; perfumy, ripe blackcurrant nose with a hint of currant leaf; powerful impression of dark, dry, concentrated fruit in the mouth, and a cedary smoothness despite the still obvious tannin and acid freshness. Any lack of finesse is more than made up for in promise – and it's good value in this line-up. Drink from 2012-2024. Find on wine-searcher.com

Fontodi Chianti Classico 2006
Chianti Classico (Tuscany), Italy
Dry Red (Cork), 14.0% abv
Top estate Fontodi's all-Sangiovese Classico is aged 12 months in French oak, but none of the barrels are new. It is ripe, bloody and full of fruit on the nose with a sense of gamey, fleshy character. Very good fruit quality, on the palate, a tight, leathery note that is typical, but cherry and blackcurrant gloss to the fruit and svelte tannins. With freshening acidity, this has beautiful balance and will cellar for 5 - 8 years. Find on wine-searcher.com

David Moret-Nominé 1er Cru Les Charmes 2007
Meursault (Burgundy), France
Dry White (Cork), 13.5% abv
Enticingly fresh and nutty on the nose, this is thoroughly voluptuous white Burgundy whose plump, peachy richness of fruit is framed by a complexity and intensity of flavour that massages the palate with subtle nutty oak and lees-derived characters, leaving you feeling refreshed and satisfied. Telmo Rodriguez Rioja Pago Real 2007
Rioja Alavesa (Rioja), Spain
Dry Red (Cork), 14.0% abv
Sourced from old bush vines in the highest part of the Rioja Alavesa, Telmo Rodriguez's French oak-aged red is a very classy blend of Tempranillo with 10% Garnacha. Youthful and complex with sweet oaky, good structure and perfumed Tempranillo fruit. Good for another five years at least in bottle. Find on wine-searcher.com
