“We used to find that we’d stumble across some fabulous wines whilst in a restaurant, at friends or abroad and really wanted to buy some to drink at home. But we just didn’t have enough space for any more boxes of wine. Now that we have our Spiral Cellar we’ve got plenty of space and can be impulsive!”

It became hard work, always having to think ahead about what wine to have delivered to the house to drink in the short term and in quantities of full cases. “I find it most therapeutic – coming home after a tough day at work and going down into the cellar to pick a perfect bottle of wine to complement dinner. My cellar is my reward for working hard! It’s going to take me a while to fill it, but that’s the fun part! My concept is that I can grow into my cellar – it inspires me to discover new wines – there are, after all, plenty to choose from! My wife was really anxious about the idea of the upheaval of the installation, particularly the lifting a relatively new timber floor, but in fact the installation was so quick and painless. The guys were great at tidying up every night, and the eight days passed really quickly. It was really fascinating coming home every night and seeing the progress they’d made.”
“We decided to refurbish our house, and at a rather late stage in the project planning, we came across Spiral Cellars. As the kitchen was being replaced it seemed the perfect time to install one. Adding the cellar to our refurbishment costs really did stretch our budget to its limit, but we’re so glad we did. I’ve been investing in wine for a while now. I buy wine and keep it in bond, and at the appropriate time I sell some of it off. The rest I ship home to lay in my cellar to drink. I’ve been pretty successful – the profit I make pays for the wine I drink. Also, given that profit made on the sale of fine wine is exempt from Capital Gains Tax it makes for a great investment vehicle – provided you choose carefully!”
