Why the wine cellar is the new #bourgeoisgoals

WHEN it comes to summer party drinks storage, a paddling pool filled with ice just isn’t going to cut it in 2020. From Hampstead to Notting Hill, bourgeois barbecues simply won’t be complete without giving your guests a tour of your new spiral staircase wine storage solution or wine rooms.

“Our enquiries and website hits have gone up three-fold during lockdown,” says Lucy Hargreaves, managing director of Spiral Cellars. The company’s cylindrical wine caves are dug up to three metres into the ground and allow access to about 2,000 bottles of wine via a central spiral staircase.

Prices start at £18,000 but can reach as much as £80,000. “It’s a personal hobby, but it’s much cheaper than having a Maserati or a mistress;’ says one recent customer, who has asked not to be named.
