Must Have Wines for Your Cellar: Spring 2018

Spring has already brought us a little warm weather to enjoy, and as the days get longer and warmer, we can’t help but feel as though we need an excellent wine to accompany them. When the sun’s shining, there’s nothing better than enjoying a delightful glass of wine as you take advantage of the glorious weather.

If you are unsure of which wines to stock your Spiral Cellar, wine room or wine cabinet with, we have brought together some of our must-have wines for spring 2018 which will be perfect for the spring months and beyond.

St Émilion Grand Cru

This wonderfully vibrant wine comes from the Chateau Godeau estate in the Saint-Émilion commune of south-western France. This region is known for fine red wines, and this offering from Chateau Godeau displays the calibre of these wines.

You can currently find a fantastic offer from Spiral Cellars Wine, featuring the 2nd label from Chateau Godeau, Les Escapades with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. These wines benefit from the limestone slopes which sit adjacent to the vineyard and offer a deep layer of clay which makes for particularly fine Merlot.

The wine itself is matured in 2nd and 3rd year French oak, giving a silky texture and depth, resulting in a smooth wine which is perfect for spring.

Mâcon-Bussières

Maison Joseph Drouhin offers this next vintage, Mâcon-Bussières Les Clos. The Les Clos vineyard is the very finest in Bussières, a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne in eastern France.

The 2016 vintage is small, as early season frosts reduced yields. However, the grapes that remained ripened beautifully into a superb wine. Highly sought-after, the consistency, quality and value for money of this vintage stand out from previous releases.

The grapes were harvested at perfect ripeness and 30% of the wine matured in 500-litre barrels, which added depth of flavour and suppleness with a hint of oak to its body.

This Mâcon-Bussières cuvée is rich and generous, and offers delicate elegance, wonderful depth and stunning finesse – a perfect addition to your Spiral Cellar and a most exquisite wine for spring.

Caro 2015

Another excellent wine for this season, the 2015 vintage of Caro is a rich libation that captures the fusion of Bordeaux and Mendoza to perfection. Caro spends 18 months in the barrel and possesses a wonderful blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon – 60% is aged in new French oak.

Only 4,500 cases of the 2015 vintage were made, so demand for this wine is high.

The Caro has a strong Argentine identity and is characterised by an elegant and beautiful bouquet. Subtle notes of eucalyptus, dried fruit, coffee and chocolate tantalise the senses with each unmissable mouthfeel.

Voluptuous and refined, Caro is synonymous with outstanding complexity and is, without a doubt, a stunning wine to add to your Spiral Cellar this spring.
